To create a unique ottoman, start by gathering an old tire, 2 pieces of round wood, screws, textured rope, hot glue, a glue gun, and sealer. First, acquire the old tire, which you may be able to obtain for free from an auto shop or purchase at a minimal cost.Next, clean the tire thoroughly with soap and water to remove any dirt or debris that may have accumulated on its surface. This will ensure a smooth and even surface for your project.Once the tire is clean, select two pieces of round wood that are slightly larger than the openings on the side of the tire. These will serve as the base for your ottoman.Before screwing the wooden boards in place, perform some dry fits to ensure they fit snugly onto the tire. Mark the points where you want to attach the wood and drill holes straight through the wood into the surface of the tire.Secure the wood in place by adding steel screws directly into the wood and tire. Use a screw gun to drive the screws home and make sure they are tightly secured.Repeat this process on the other side of the tire, making any necessary adjustments to ensure that both sides are evenly attached.Once both sides are complete, inspect the ottoman for any loose screws and tighten them as needed.The next step is to apply hot glue to the center of one of the wooden boards and begin wrapping the textured rope around it in a spiral pattern. Fold the beginning end of the rope under the glued area and continue adding layers of glue and rope until you reach the desired thickness.As you wrap the rope, make sure each layer is evenly spaced and the rope is tightly coiled around the tire. Continue wrapping the rope until the entire surface of the tire is covered.Finally, apply a sealer finish to your ottoman and allow it to dry for several hours or overnight before using it as a coffee table, footrest, or additional seating in your living room.
